Improving Cellulite: Is it possible?
Aesthetic medicine: The trends of the past decades show how the demands from both men and women has clearly shifted towards a more personalised approach and for more non-invasive treatments. Nowadays, the “average patient“ is a more informed, curious and demanding web user that puts his own safety in first place, as well as thinking about physical appearance.
These are some of the reasons that prompted the Scientific World to offer non-invasive and multidisciplinary solutions for the treatment of aesthetic and medical pathologies.

Although aesthetic medicine is characterized by less invasive techniques of cosmetic surgery, it is necessary and essential to always rely on professionals and specialists in the field. Dr. Elena Vescovi is one such professional. She is an aesthetic doctor currently working in Vasto (CH), Pescara and Lecce and Health Director of the Ametìs Medical Practice in Vasto (CH). La Pelle, journal of Dermatology and Cosmetics for medical professionals, interviewed her.
Dr Vescovi, can you describe your work and what led you to prefer a multidisciplinary approach for the treatment of aesthetic pathologies?
“If I had to describe my work, I would say that aesthetic medicine is one of the very few specializations that still has the privilege of seeing the patient in a healthy state. It is able to truly have a significant affect on the patient’s quality of life by offering advice, treatments and interventions aimed at his/her psychophysical well-being. It is therefore not just the “trivial” correction of an imperfection. The concept is that man is healthy when he is in harmony with the different stages of his life. Not only the physical aspect but also the mental one and the ability to socially interact in a serene manner.

That’s why I prefer a multidisciplinary approach for the treatment of aesthetic “pathologies”. Those who come to me often complain of a flaw, but in reality, after an initial global assessment, I realize that the problem is often not only aesthetic. It involves biological and/or psychological aspects, leading me to involve the input of various colleagues: dermatologists, ecographers, psychologists and physiotherapists.
For these reasons, I dedicate myself to my patients on a complete scale via careful and accurate analysis of their medical history.
Nothing should be overlooked or left to chance. It’s my M.O., my modus operandi. Unfortunately, or possibly even fortunately, it’s the only way I know how to operate!”

You have a wide and varied range of patients that come to you. What do you think are the main issues for which people seek solutions in aesthetic medicine? And what do you think is the cause of these problems?
“The patients who turn to me are mainly people who approach these methods in a healthy and intelligent way. Their aim is to seek solutions for imperfections that cause them discomfort. I’m referring mainly to the slowing down of the physiological aging process, maintaining the naturalness of body and face traits, thanks to minimally invasive treatments. Because they are painless and have increasingly reduced recovery times”.

“It’s clear that, in a wide range of people, there can be cases that deserve more attention and care than others. I’m talking about patients with clear dysmorphic disorders. They are overly worried about defects usually related to their hair, nose, eyes or lips, but also about “defects” that only they can see. Sometimes they are teenagers, but increasingly so, also adults. That’s why it’s important to dedicate time and attention to them so that they’re able to understand where the real problem lies.”
“Empathy, competence and the ability to identify…is what’s essential to begin with. But there’s much more to it. The more the years pass by, the more I’m convinced of how complex it is to take charge of the actual person, and not only of a pathology or imperfection one might have. At the same time though, I’m convinced that it will always be the most noble and fascinating profession that I know.”

You are one of the most experienced experts of Endospheres Therapy. What are the characteristics of this method that have won you over? And how do you use it in your work?
“The main characteristic of Endospheres Therapy is to treat body and face imperfections such as cellulite, fat accumulations, wrinkles and tissue sagging. It is a painless method that utilises Compressive Microvibration®®, a mechanically generated vibration at a variable frequency that acts specifically on these imperfections. The treatment follows a precise protocol developed by the Scientific Committee and can be performed on the whole body.”
“In my clinic, I found that Endospheres Therapy is able to obtain a significant reduction in pain. Especially since the advent of the new handpiece with decidedly softer gel spheres, it is effective in pain reduction even in patients suffering from pathologies such as fibromyalgia: a pathology well known for its disabling characteristics related to migratory and chronic pain.”

Can you tell us how a doctor’s practice would benefit by utilising Endospheres Therapy? Or rather, why should a doctor decide to integrate Endospheres Therapy into their work protocol?
“In my experience, this machine produces excellent results:
“Of course, spoken like this, it may sound like a miracle! You may be asking how a machine can achieve such varied results? The truth is that its versatility depends on how the treatment is set and selected on the device and how the handpiece is used. I consider it to be a bit of a ‘wild card’. It is always essential to emphasize the importance linked to the correct assessment of the patient protocol, integrating it with the whole, wide range of therapies that an aesthetic doctor has at his disposition.”

Do you have a particular case study that you can share with us about the use of ‘Endospheres’ in the treatment of patients?

Certainly! I must tell you about one of our patients of whom we’re very fond of. We accompanied her on a considerably substantial nutrition path. In addition to weight loss, we included various types of treatments and amongst these, Endospheres Therapy has undoubtedly been the dominating factor. This combination allowed us to minimize laxity in the tissues. As a matter of fact, it has allowed the maintenance of muscle tone in addition to a general body remodeling. To date, the patient has never stopped doing Endospheres once a week and soon we will be celebrating the 200th session…and we usually celebrate after every 50 sessions!”
So…you could say that this device has a contraindication and this is it… it generates dependence!!!
